Flowergirl WIP 4

More work done on the little flowergirl. I think I've finished the dress (will have to let it sit a while to find out for sure) and started on the background.

As always, constructive criticism welcome!

Wow! You've made a great amount of progress and she looks wonderful!

I'm not sure what colors you are using to create the grays in her dress nor can I tell from the image itself, but since she is outside, I would love to see small light touches of sky (cerulean) blue, greens for the background, and touches of pinks, purples and yellows as those are almost always reflected in outside images. I seldom use just plain gray. I try to always flavor it with one of the other colors to give it temperature as well as interest.

This is only a suggestion as you're the one with the artistic vision! Disregard if this doesn't fit with your present plan!

Wow, you got alot more done, course the face is the most time consuming. This is colored pencil, right? Amazing. I am going to have to branch out with my cp work. Looks good, can't come up with any criticism......

Laure: Actually, there are light touches of cloud blue, lemon yellow, and a light aqua in her dress - the main shadow color is a light lavendar. Perhaps I should make the color touches a little more pronounced?

Your input is always appreciated! THANK YOU!!

Artist U: Yes, this is cp!

Not necessarily, Teresa, these low-res photos don't always show all the colors, especially when they are light colors. As you said, let it sit and then see what you think.

IF it pleases you then leave it! IF you think you want to punch it up, do so. This is where the artistic vision comes in and all the critiques in the world don't make any difference!

Hi Teresa, this is really coming along nicely! You have done a fantastic job on the dress. I happened to be using my husband's computer and I could see the colours you used but it wasn't so obvious when I switched to my computer. Perhaps Laure's computer screen isn't showing all of the colour that you have in the white. Anyway, congratulations on putting colour into a white dress - it takes courage!

Have you finished her shoes? That was one area that my eyes kept going to as if something wasn't 'reading' right. I found it hard to tell with such a small image but my eyes seemed to tell my brain that she was standing on her tippy toes or something. Perhaps her shoes just need more colour to ground them. Or perhaps I need to return to my husband's computer. :-)

Thanks for posting. I do enjoy a wip image!

Laure and Teresa: Thank you for your thoughtful comments. I really appreciate you taking time to review this and I respect your opinions as wonderful artists.

Re: her shoes.... I agree, I think they need a little more to keep her from floating!

Megha: Thank you!

Constructive criticism Teresa? My only criticism is that you don't realise how well you have done it. I cannot draw at all and it is a great regret for that is a talent I would love to have.

Hi, you are doing a really good job on this. The shoes look to be floating on the reference photo too, so you will have to find your own way of 'grounding them'. Nice job, looking forward to the finished piece.

Teresa, this is amazing. Your colored pencil work is outstanding. It doesn't look like you have far to go.

This is such a wonderful painting as it is realistic yet has a touch of whimsy and sweetness to it that you don't often find together.

It's going to be a real winner when you've finished!
