Did some more watercolor studies today. Enjoyed doing the oranges... actually managed to loosen my detail-oriented self up a little and just have fun. The cactus leaf tried my patience... I painted each leaf section in a different technique and none of the results were really what I was looking for. Next time! The seed pods, acorn and pecan were fun, and the coneflower was just thrown in at the last minute because I wanted an excuse to play in Alizarin Crimson :-)
The variety looks like fun to me. I really like the cactus. It reminds me of my "Christmas Cactus" which seems to bloom in other than December. I do like the looseness of the oranges.

ReplyDeleteYou may not be happy with the Christmas Cactus but it turned out great. Using different approaches to each section gave it a more realistic look because each section of the cactus is usually different one section to another. They aren't just repeats of the one before like I usually do. Good job. Keep having fun. Get in as much art as you can before Sept.

ReplyDeleteNice to meet you and visit your lovely blog. Your watercolours have a lovely fresh feel - so many try to overwork what they do - these are lovely! I live on north Vancouver Island by mountains, forest and ocean and lots of wildlife (truly wild, like bears and mountain lions!) and it is wonderful! I paint in oil and pastels mostly but also coloured pencil and specialize in portraiture. Hope you'll visit my blog sometime:
